Interior
A private home with a holiday atmosphere: a property along the west coast of Lake Zurich was transformed into a place of tranquillity and relaxation. The house is characterised by a mediterranean and dreamy character that transports the residents and guests into a world of their own as soon as they enter.
Living area with panoramic views
The heart of the house is located on the ground floor: everyday life takes place in the living and dining area. This area is characterized by the use of light-colored wood and fabrics, combined with customized carpentry fittings and generous frameless sliding window elements, which bring the outside space into the house and create important visual axes. An L-shaped floor plan makes it possible to divide the kitchen and living room into two zones without physically separating the rooms, further emphasizing the open-plan feel.
The private spaces are located on the upper floor: the master bedroom has a dressing room, its own bathroom, and an outdoor terrace with a whirlpool. The mediterranean flair is also noticeable here, as the colors and materials from the ground floor have been picked up. A beige sisal carpet runs through the bedroom, along with a light-colored fabric incorporated into the wooden-framed wardrobe fronts, creating a harmonious overall look. Dark hammered metal handles add a textural contrast to the linear elements in the room.
The basement floors of the house were also carefully designed, allowing the client to gain valuable additional space. Visitors are surprised by the spaciousness of the basement, as the house extends not only upwards but also downwards, revealing unexpected rooms. In addition to an office, bathroom, guest bedroom and underground car park, there is also a temperature-controlled wine cellar, which is an eye-catching feature with elegant wooden elements and indirect lighting. A craft room with bright color accents offers enough space for children to be creative in their own personal space. The counterpart for the parents is a private fitness room and a lounge where they can enjoy great evenings with guests.
As the client enjoys spending time outdoors, the garden design was of particular importance. The outdoor area is divided into several zones with different functions. At the rear of the property, an area was created just for the children. A spacious wooden deck extends across the north-east, protected from the weather by the cantilevered volume of the upper floor and thus visually enlarging the indoor area towards the outside. A pergola with a tree growing through it, connected to the open-plan kitchen with dining area, creates the same effect and strengthens the relationship between inside and outside. Located here is a dining table with space for up to ten people and an outdoor kitchen customized according to the client’s wishes. A lounge area on the wooden deck offers space to relax and linger and creates the transition to the next zone: in the eastern part of the property is a pool area with further opportunities for lounging. A high bamboo hedge shields this part from the neighboring property and creates a private zone for the family, without disturbing views from outside.
